The NDP is talking about adding vacancy control which would cap how much a landlord could raise the rent between tenants. I don't think it will get approved.. if it did developers would never go near rental construction and according to Vancouver Sun this would kill over 12,000 new rental units in the planning stage.
Another classic example of the NDP just not understanding how this market really works and the role individual landlords play in this city. If this new legislation was passed then I would have no choice but to raise the rent on my units every year by the allowable rate as opposed to only raising between tenants.
